NorthWest Passage
April 2016 In anticipation of the Crystal Serenity voyage through the North West Passage in the summer of 2016, an international mass rescue tabletop exercise was conducted to discuss coordinated response procedures to a simulated incident on board the vessel.
The exercise involved the vessel coming into contact with a large piece of multi year ice, which punctured the hull causing flooding and eventually leading to a mass rescued operation.
Whilst this exercise was conducted for the Crystal Serenity, it could be applied to any cruise vessel in the Arctic region, and involved units of the Canadian Coast Guard, US Coast Guard and several search and rescue units.
