Off Course Alarm!!
Report No. 200148
After preparing the passage plan for a voyage between the Tyne and Wandelaar with the Second Officer, the North Sea Pilot noticed the vessel's passage plan posted in the Chartroom for the use of the Watchkeeping Officers. The courses noted in this plan were 075, 047, 020, 040, 035, 059 and 027. The correct courses were plotted on the charts, and the correct waypoints were programmed into the GPS Navigators. The general direction between the River Tyne and Wandelaar is South East. A possible (very) approximate route is shown on the chart. It would appear that each of the courses written on the passage plan were 90 degrees different from the required course. This report shows the value of checking everything. |
