Meet our new President

27 Jun 2024 Institute News

Following the completion of our Annual General Meeting in Manila, we are pleased to extend a very warm welcome to our new President Captain Trevor Bailey MNM FNI.

Captain Trevor’s wide-ranging maritime career has spanned more than 50 years, and he continues to serve as Master with Windstar Cruises. Through the years he has contributed to a number of publications for The Nautical Institute, and he is also a Younger Brother of Trinity House.

On Trafalgar Day 2015, Captain Trevor was awarded the UK Merchant Navy Medal for services to safety on high-speed catamaran ferries and to The Nautical Institute.

As a seagoing and serving Master, Captain Trevor will be able to highlight the challenges of leadership and command in a contemporary working environment and to share his experiences in working with multinational, multi-disciplinary crews.

As the needs of the industry evolve and change, he will also have a keen insight into the skills required for the next generation of technology and fuels for our vessels.

He will also be able to continue the great work of retiring President Captain André Legoubin with a special focus on the Leaders of Tomorrow.

Captain André worked and travelled tirelessly in representing The Nautical Institute and we look forward to continuing to draw upon his experience as Immediate Past President.

On behalf of our members and the wider maritime community – thank you both for your commitment to our profession.
