This paper analyses the latest "capstone" standards for Ergonomics and HCD in the context of ship systems and draws conclusions for design and its interface to design offices, shipyards and other stakeholders.

Lloyd's Register has developed a guide to human element best practice for ship operators and is now considering the development of a best practice guide for ship design. This requires a different tailoring of the HCD process, supported by technical and management guidance.
