The launch of The Nautical Institute’s Egypt Branch took place on 21 November at the prestigious Helnan Hotel Montazah Royal Palace in Alexandria. The event was a significant occasion that brought together key figures from Egypt’s maritime industry, including representatives from the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Environment, private offshore oil and gas companies, and marine training providers.

Our President, Captain Trevor Bailey, delivered the opening address. Captain Qasim Masoud, Head of Qualifications Marine & Offshore at The Nautical Institute, gave an insightful presentation highlighting Egypt’s Vision 2030, the opportunities and challenges within the nation’s transportation and logistics sectors, and highlighted how the new branch can positively contribute to and support the local maritime community. The event also featured presentations from other prominent members of Egypt’s business community.

Attendees praised the informative presentations, particularly those emphasising The Nautical Institute’s pivotal role in pollution prevention and clean energy training. Representatives from the Ministry of Environment expressed keen interest in further collaboration, and discussions with the minister’s office are expected to continue.

The event also underscored the importance of engaging younger seafarers, with a strong focus on fostering their involvement in maritime initiatives. Captain Trevor Bailey personally engaged with younger participants, and plans were made to further involve them in the branch’s activities. Additionally, the presence of the Arab Academy for Science and Technology, alongside training centres from Malta, highlighted the branch’s role as a hub for international collaboration.

Captain Trevor Bailey congratulated the branch committee on their meticulous planning, noting the excellent representation from diverse maritime sectors, including harbour masters, pilotage authorities, and port operators.

This milestone event marked the beginning of a promising chapter for The Nautical Institute in Egypt, aligning with the nation’s Vision 2030 goals and strengthening connections across the maritime sector.
