Split into five modules, this intensive course covers:

  • Module 01: Decarbonisation in shipping, regulation and legislation
  • Module 02: Well-to-Wake 
  • Module 03: Supply chain management
  • Module 04: Bunkering 
  • Module 05: Crew training and upskilling

Course aims

Course aims include:

  1. Educate on the safety measures and emergency response protocols specific to each substance to ensure safe handling.

  2. Provide insights into the environmental implications of using these substances as marine fuels, including their benefits and potential risks.

  3. Familiarise participants with international regulations and standards governing the use of Ammonia, Methanol, and Hydrogen in maritime operations.

  4. Develop practical skills for the day-to-day management and operational procedures involving these substances on ships.

  5. Train participants in understadning risk assessment and management strategies to mitigate potential hazards associated with Ammonia, Methanol, and Hydrogen.

  6. Discuss the latest advancements and future trends in the use of alternative fuels and the training standards available. 

Course duration
This course is designed as a three-day intensive course, it is delivered online via Zoom over four hours per day. 
Who should attend?

This course is designed for candidates with technical understanding of fuels and for persons who are responsible for the crew who manage and engage with fueling, including (but not limited to):

  • Maritime Education and Training (MET) providers;
  • Shipping company superintendents;
  • Maritime administrators;
  • Maritime auditors, surveyors and others with a vested interest in this training
Certification

Candidates who attend the Introduction to Alternative Fuels: Technical Insights course will receive a Nautical Institute Certificate of Completion.

To attain the certificate candidates must:- 

  • Attend the course in full.
