The Nautical Institute at the IMO
The North West England & North Wales Branch of The Nautical Institute is pleased to host Captain Chris O’Flaherty MA MSc AFNI, Senior Technical Adviser and International Maritime Organization (IMO) Lead Delegate for The Nautical Institute HQ. He is also author of the monthly IMO updates published for our members in Seaways.
In this webinar, he will give an overview of the IMO’s structure, describe The Nautical Institute's governance processes (insofar as its representation and position on various committees), and outline the key topics presently under consideration at the IMO - together with the positions being adopted by The Nautical Institute on behalf of all its members.
Chris served for 37 years in the Royal Navy before joining the staff of The Nautical Institute in 2024. His naval service ranged from Navigating Officer to Command on ships ranging from coastal minesweepers to Aircraft Carriers. A specialist in clearance diving and anti-submarine warfare, he has held a number of diplomatic appointments - most recently as the UK’s Defence Attaché to Libya.
He has been an Associate Fellow of The Nautical Institute since 2012.
