Capt Chris O’Flaherty AFNI is The Nautical Institute’s lead delegate at the International Maritime Organization, and author of the monthly IMO updates published for our members in Seaways. In this webinar, he will give an overview of the IMO’s structure, describe our Institute’s governance processes for our representation on IMO committees, and outline the hot topics presently under consideration at the IMO together with the positions being adopted by our Institute on behalf of our members.
Capt Chris O’Flaherty AFNI served for 37 years in the Royal Navy before joining headquarters staff of The Nautical Institute in 2024. His naval service ranged from Navigating Officer to Command, on ships ranging from coastal minesweepers to Aircraft Carriers. A specialist in clearance diving and then in anti-submarine warfare, he has also held a number of diplomatic appointments, most latterly as the UK’s Defence Attaché to Libya. He has been an Associate Fellow of The Nautical Institute since 2012.
