Overhaul of a Voith Schneider Propeller

The talk. The tug SD Adept was built in 1980 (gross tonnage 384, length overall 39m, beam 9m.) A 25,000-hour overhaul of its Voith Schneider propeller was recently carried out in Devonport. The process will be described, including some unexpected challenges that were encountered.

 

The speaker. Stephen went to sea as a cadet in 1997 with P&O Containers (later P&O Nedlloyd). He also sailed with P&O Ferries and AWSR. Since 2014 he has worked for Serco Marine Services on the ex-RMAS tugs.
