Extreme Maritime Weather: “Bridging the Knowledge Gap Towards Safer Shipping”

23 Sep 2024 12:00AM - 26 Sep 2024 12:00AM IMO Headquarters, London Conference UK/London

Mariners know all too well what the sea looks like when the lines on a synoptic chart converge - but for many forecasters and people working in the industry, the numbers are just that.

The Nautical Institute is partnering with the IMO and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to help share experiences and knowledge between those who generate forecasts and those who use them. The 2nd WMO-IMO Symposium on Extreme Maritime Weather  “Bridging the Knowledge Gap Towards Safer Shipping” (23-26 September 2024) is a free event focused on extreme maritime weather and the impact of early warning systems on improving safety at sea.

To support this event, we are seeking photos and videos of real-life situations to better inform the Symposium members about the full range of extreme weather conditions experienced at sea. From hurricanes to hailstorms, sand to fog to snow, we want your photos and video footage.

Please send any files to [email protected], to our social media accounts or use WeTransfer for larger files. We would love to hear where the photo/video was taken, conditions at the time and what the forecast was.

Please DO NOT place yourself in any danger in order to obtain an image or video!

Please do not send us any AI generated images or video footage.
